Qualifications: Licensed as as Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of New Jersey. Certified as a Nurse Practitioner with specialization in Oncology. At least two (2) years of nursing experience in the oncology speciality area in a hospital or clinic setting, preferably in an advanced practice role. American Heart Association: Basic Cardiac Life Support.
Responsibilities: Advanced nursing practice is the utilization of professional nursing knowledge. Advanced Practice Nurse (APNs) function as advanced practice professionals in expanded roles. This requires collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to provide for assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs. Care is provided to oncology patients in the ambulatory and hospital settings (pending privileging process). The APN will work within a multidisciplinary unit that is designed to meet the needs of specialized cancer populations; i.e. disease specific settings. The major responsibilities include expanded patient assessment, triage, coordination and documentation of care to a specified group of adult patients older then 18 years of age. This includes care of adults at various development stages including geriatrics. The Nurse Practice and the Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist Acts of the State of New Jersey define the scope of the position and adhere to the policies and Standard Operating Procedures set forth by The Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
